System Description
Provide a ventilated, anchored sleeper athletic wood flooring system consisting, in general, of wood laminate sub-flooring, maple flooring, vapor retarder, finishes, painted game lines, and wall base. Provide an athletic wood flooring system, which has been manufactured to maintain performance criteria, stated by the manufacturer without defects, damage or failure.
Submittals
Specifier Note: the following are typical submittals. The Specifier should change, add or omit whatever he/she deems necessary.
Product data, including the manufacturer’s information for specified products. Selection and verification of samples for finishes, colors and textures.
Shop drawings showing layout, profiles, product components & finishing details.
Installation and maintenance instructions as published by the manufacturer.
Quality Assurance
The manufacturer must have experience in the manufacturing of ventilated athletic wood flooring systems for a period of no less than (5) years.
Quality Assurance Continued
Installer must have performed installations of the same scale in the last (5) years.
Installer shall be recognized and approved by the flooring manufacturer.
Delivery, Storage, and Handling
Materials must be delivered in manufacturer’s original, unopened and undamaged containers with manufacturer’s identification labels intact.
Store material protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions, on a clean, dry, flat surface protected from all possible damage.
Recommended environmental conditions for storage are a relative temperature in the range of 65o F to 75o F (18o C to 24o C), and ambient humidity in the range of 35% to 50%.
Material shall be stored in the area where the installation is to take place, a week (7 days) prior to installation or whatever time is deemed necessary, so that it can acclimate to area conditions.
Material should not suffer excessive damage during handling (i.e. edge chipping, excessive warping, etc.)
Site Conditions
Maintain stable room and sunflower environmental conditions for a period of seven (7) days prior, during and seven (7) days after installation.
-Recommended temperature range: 65o F to 75o F (18o C to 24o C).
-Recommended relative humidity range: 35% to 50%.
Installation to be carried-out no sooner than the specified curing time of concrete subfloor (normal density concrete curing time is approximately 30 days for development of design strength).
Moisture vapor emission content of the concrete slab must not exceed 7 lbs/1000 ft2 per 24 hours when using the Calcium Chloride test as per ASTM F 1869-98.
Installation of athletic wood flooring will not commence unless all other finishes in the building have been completed and the HVAC systems are operational and able to sustain stable environmental conditions (as specified).
Warranty
Provide manufacturer’s standard warranty.
The athletic wood flooring is warranted to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment from the manufacturer.
Maintenance and Repair
Provide additional amount of approximately 2% of the total floor surface, of each type. Repair material must be from the same lot as material supplied for initial installation. Maintain surface as per NOFMA published recommendations for wood floor maintenance.

Systems
“PRO AIR FLEX PLUS” (Anchored) by Heritage Sport Floors, LLC
Ventilated, high profile, anchored, cushioned sleeper, athletic wood floor system as manufactured by Heritage Sport Floors, LLC or approved equal. System will be comprised of padded sleepers anchored to the substrate, with one layer of plywood on top of the sleepers, CAV spacers by Heritage Sport Floors, LLC attached to the top of the plywood and maple strip flooring affixed to the top of the flooring assembly.
Materials
Specifier Note: specify wood finish type, grade and size.
Flooring
- Wood flooring to be [Second & Better] [options 1st grade & 3rd grade] continuous tongue & groove, end-matched Northern Hard Maple, lengths no less than 15″ and no longer than 96″, graded, marked and stamped by the manufacturer.
Flooring Continued
- Flooring width to be 1 1/2″ (option 2 1/4″)
- Flooring to be provided in thickness of 25/32″
- Wood flooring may be treated by Heritage Sport Floors, LLC with Woodlife F when specified.
Sub-floor Assembly
- Vapor barrier shall be 6-mil polyethylene
- Sleepers shall be 2″ x 3″ with resilient pads at 12″ O.C.
- Pads shall be 7/16″ with fully enclosed air channels
- Sub-floor shall be 1 layer of 1/2″ x 4’x8′ CDX plywood
- Sub-floor fasteners shall be 1″ nails or staples
- CAV spacers shall be in accordance with Heritage Sports Floors, LLC recommended patented CAV system requirements
- Panel anchors shall be drive pins 1/4″ x 2-3/4″ or as dictated by jobsite conditions with anti-squeak sleeves.
- Flooring fasteners shall be 2″ barbed cleats or 15 gauge coated staples
- Wall base shall be 4″ x 3″ vented cove base with pre-molded corners

Part 3: Execution
Installers
Refer to Quality Assurance section 1.4 of this document for information on installers.
Examination and Preparation
The following must be ensured prior to installation of the primary product:
Concrete sub-floor to be placed a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to the installation of floor system.
Inspect concrete slab for proper tolerance and dryness reporting any discrepancies in writing to the general contractor.
All work to put the concrete slab in acceptable condition shall be the responsibility of the general contractor.
The concrete slab shall be broom cleaned by the general contractor.
Concrete slab depression, if any, to be provided by the flooring manufacturer or contractor.
Sub-floor must be clean, free of paint, thick dust, sealer, hardeners, grease, oil, solvents, old adhesive and any other foreign substances.
Sealing of cracks and holes and the smoothing and leveling of rough, uneven surfaces shall be the responsibility of the general contractor and must be carried out using a good quality Portland cement-based leveling compound approved by the manufacturer.
Installation will not be carried out unless above conditions are satisfied.
Report any discrepancies to the general contractor for correction.
Installation
Specifier Note: the following is considered common practice wood floor installation procedure. Alter following procedure as required by project description (if necessary).
Floor System
Cover concrete slab with poly, lapping edges 6″ and seal with adhesive or 2″ duct tape. Turn the perimeter edges 6″ up and on to the wall, taping it in place with 2″ duct tape.
Place sleepers end to end at right angles to the direction of the finish flooring with end joints staggered up to 24″-48″. Sleepers shall be spaced on center as per manufacturer’s specifications. Allow 2″ voids at perimeter and vertical obstructions on all layers.
Place plywood over sleepers at a 45 or 90-degree angle to direction of the finish flooring. 1/4″ spacing all edges and breaking joints every 4′. Attach with 1″ fasteners to sleepers and secure panel assemblies to concrete substrate using steel anchors with anti-squeak sleeves.
Floor System Continued
Install CAV spacers in accordance with Heritage Sport Floors, LLC recommended patented CAV system requirements.
Install maple flooring over CAV spacers by power nailing, or stapling, at right angles to sleepers through sub-floor at each sleeper crossing. End joints must be properly driven up and proper spacing provided for the humidity conditions of the local area as recommended by the flooring contractor.
If required, size joints between flooring strips [Washer Rows] to allow for immediate expansion in accordance with local humidity conditions.
Sanding
Specifier Note: Add / change as necessary.
Sand floor using course, medium, and fine grade sand paper.
After sanding, buff entire floor using 100 grit screen disc or equal with heavy-duty buffing machine.
Clean floor before applying first coat of seal.
Finishing
Inspect entire area of the floor to insure that the surface is acceptable for finishing, and is clean and completely free from sanding dust.
Apply two (2) coats of approved seal and two (2) coats of approved finish per manufacturer’s instructions.
Buff and clean floor between each coat.
Apply game lines accurately in accordance with drawings and layouts provided by the Architect. Lines shall be straight with sharp edges. Apply between seal and first coat of finish. Allow for sufficient drying time prior to cleaning floor surface.
Cove Base
Affix rubber vent base to walls with recommended anchors or adhesive.
Use pre-molded outside corners and field mintered inside corners.
